The Health Community of West Africa Association has once again successfully executed its flagship program, the China–West Africa Medical and Health Industry and AI Diagnosis and Project Cooperation Summit and Expo for the 3rd time in a harmonious synergy with partners and stakeholders reechoing its commitment to advancing healthcare development across Africa.

This year’s event was held from 19th to 21st August 2026 at the Ghana International Mall, Spintex, Accra, bringing together government officials, diplomats, healthcare professionals, medical experts, pharmaceutical manufacturers, medical technology companies, investors, hospitals, distributors, traditional medicine practitioners, and business leaders from China, Ghana, and across West Africa.
Over the past three years, the event has evolved into a major platform for strengthening healthcare cooperation, promoting investment and technology transfer, and fostering strategic business partnerships between China, Ghana, and countries across the West African sub-region.

Partnerships
Our key state partners for this year included Ministry of Health in Ghana, Ghana Health Service and Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), under the theme, “Deepening AI Deployment: Empowering Health in West Africa and Reshaping the Development Landscape.”
The Summit is projected to generate an order volume of approximately US$80 million, highlighting the significant commercial opportunities within West Africa’s healthcare sector and the growing potential for stronger China–West Africa trade, investment and technology partnerships.

The diplomatic community was also strongly represented, with ambassadors and high commissioners from several West African countries participating in the Summit and related engagements. Representatives from Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Senegal, Mali, Niger, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Burkina Faso and other countries were present, underscoring the regional significance of the initiative.
Strategic Pre-Expo Engagements & Market Visits in Healthcare
The Expo programme began on 17 August with Chinese delegates visiting key Ghanaian healthcare markets, businesses and institutions across pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, diagnostics, consumables and hospital supplies. Visits to Okaishie, Korle Bu and leading healthcare companies provided insights into market needs while identifying opportunities for trade, investment, technology transfer and partnerships. On 18 August, engagements with PMAG, AGI, GHS, FDA, GIPC, Ghana Free Zones Authority and professional bodies strengthened institutional cooperation. The delegation also visited Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and participated in the China–West Africa Medical Merchants Conference and Matchmaking Sessions, connecting businesses across multiple healthcare sectors. A courtesy visit to the Chinese Embassy further strengthened the programme’s diplomatic and institutional significance. These engagements laid a critical foundation for meaningful partnerships and helped align the Expo with Ghana and West Africa’s evolving healthcare needs.
Business Beyond Borders: Connecting Healthcare Markets, Businesses & Partnerships
The three-day Expo brought together over 300 enterprises and more than 100 merchants and buyers from China, Ghana and West Africa. Exhibitors showcased pharmaceuticals, medical devices, laboratory equipment, hospital supplies, oxygen systems and specialised healthcare technologies. The Expo created direct connections between manufacturers, suppliers, hospitals, distributors, importers, investors and procurement stakeholders, facilitating opportunities for trade, distribution, investment and partnerships. Beyond exhibition, it served as a strategic B2B platform connecting key players across the healthcare value chain. The projected USD$37 million order volume underscored the Expo’s significant commercial potential and its capacity to drive tangible healthcare business opportunities.
Medical Forums Driving Knowledge Exchange, Innovation & Healthcare Cooperation
The Summit, officially opened on 19 August, featured specialised forums promoting knowledge exchange and clinical cooperation between Chinese and West African medical professionals. Key sessions covered Surgery and Clinical Cooperation, Gynaecology, Nephrology, Oncology, Traditional Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine, AI Diagnosis and Digital Health, and Blood Purification and Renal Technology. Discussions focused on emerging medical technologies, specialised care, clinical practices and opportunities for collaboration. Particular emphasis was placed on AI and digital health solutions for diagnosis, healthcare management and clinical decision-making, especially in underserved areas. The Summit also encouraged cooperation and knowledge exchange in traditional medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Strengthening Cooperation With Ghanaian Health Institutions
The Chinese medical delegation undertook strategic engagements with Ghanaian healthcare and academic institutions to strengthen long-term cooperation beyond the Expo. At the University of Ghana College of Health Sciences, discussions focused on medical education, research, professional training, knowledge exchange and technology transfer. Visits to the University of Ghana Medical Centre, Greater Accra Regional Hospital and LEKMA Hospital explored healthcare delivery, medical technology and institutional collaboration. The delegation also met the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service to discuss strengthening cooperation between Ghana’s health system, Chinese medical institutions and technology providers. The programme concluded with a networking dinner for stakeholders to deepen partnerships and future collaboration.
MEDIA & PUBLIC IMPACT
The Summit and Expo generated significant media interest, attracting coverage and participation from leading Ghanaian media organisations, including TV3, Channel One TV, UTV, Angel TV, Daily Graphic, Daily Guide, NewsCentra, The Finder and Joy News, among others. Their extensive coverage amplified the Expo’s visibility and brought its key discussions to a wider audience. Media reports highlighted critical themes including healthcare investment, medical technology, AI-powered diagnosis, clinical cooperation and growing China–West Africa economic partnerships. The strong media presence also helped showcase the Expo’s role in connecting healthcare stakeholders, promoting innovation and creating opportunities for deeper collaboration between Ghana, China and countries across West Africa.

The 2026 China–West Africa Medical & Health Industry Expo demonstrated the power of partnership, innovation and knowledge exchange in advancing healthcare across the region. From strategic pre-Expo engagements and specialised medical forums to business matchmaking, exhibitions and institutional cooperation, the programme created meaningful opportunities for lasting impact. Building on these achievements, the 2027 edition is poised to expand participation, deepen partnerships and translate emerging opportunities into stronger healthcare solutions, investments and regional collaboration.
