Dr. Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, has officially inaugurated the members of the National Committee for the Control and Ethics of the Donation, Removal, Transplantation, and Grafting of Human Organs, Tissues, and Cells (CNCE/DPTG).

The ceremony took place on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Ministry of Health in Ouagadougou.

During the event, Dr. Kargougou emphasized that establishing the CNCE/DPTG aligns with the decree for implementing the transplantation of human organs, tissues, and cells in Burkina Faso.

“As part of the process of implementing human organ, tissue, and cell transplantation in Burkina Faso, a decree has been issued establishing the National Committee for the Control and Ethics of the Donation, Removal, Transplantation, and Grafting of Human Organs, Tissues, and Cells,” he stated.

He added, “The committee will be responsible for coordinating activities related to organ transplantation in Burkina Faso. It must ensure transparency in the selection processes for donors and recipients and maintain a register of patients involved in the transplant process.”

Dr. Kargougou expressed optimism about the future, stating, “With this committee in place, we are moving slowly but surely towards the first kidney transplants in our country in 2024.”

He also congratulated the committee members on their appointments and encouraged them to work diligently to make kidney transplants a reality in Burkina Faso.

Professor Harouna Ouédraogo, a retired psychiatrist, thanked the Minister of Health for his trust and initiative in establishing the CNCE/DPTG committee.

The committee, appointed for a three-year term, comprises members from various ministries, including Health, Justice and Human Rights, Gender and Family, Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, and related associations. The committee’s mission is to fulfill its entrusted duties with dedication, self-sacrifice, and loyalty.
