In a major stride toward deepening global health cooperation, the 2025 China–Liaoning & West African Countries Medical and Health Industry Cooperation Conference was held today at the Red Star Macalline Shenbei Mall. The high-level gathering brought together Chinese medical and pharmaceutical enterprises with senior West African health officials—including delegations from Ghana and Guinea—to advance cross-border collaboration and address persistent healthcare supply-chain gaps.
The event opened with an interactive exhibition showcasing a range of innovative Chinese medical technologies. West African delegates explored therapeutic eye patches, portable renal function testing systems, and other emerging devices, gaining firsthand insight into China’s expanding capacity in cutting-edge health innovation. This practical demonstration set a productive tone for the discussions that followed.
During the formal session, Ms. Chen Jie, Executive Officer for HCOWA China, outlined AI-driven strategies to streamline the export of Chinese pharmaceuticals to West Africa, emphasizing smarter logistics, regulatory harmonization, and digital solutions that enhance transparency. Prince Opoku Dogbey, Vice President of the Health Community of West Africa Association (HCOWA), presented key outcomes from the 2025 West Africa Medical Expo and previewed plans for the 2026 edition, highlighting new opportunities for trade, professional exchange, and technology transfer.
Keynotes from West African health leaders provided valuable market intelligence. Mr. Nicholas Nyagblornu, Deputy Director of the Ghana Health Service, detailed Ghana’s medical procurement priorities for 2026, offering Chinese enterprises clear guidance on market needs and entry pathways. Yakubu Tobor Yusuf, Director of the Ghana Traditional Medicine Practice Council, underscored traditional medicine as a cultural and commercial connector, advocating joint initiatives that bridge African herbal medicine with traditional Chinese medicine.
A major highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Health Industry Branch of the Liaoning Council for the Promotion of International Trade and HCOWA. The agreement establishes a long-term framework for dialogue, project facilitation, and resource sharing between China and West Africa.
Following the signing ceremony, Chinese enterprises held closed-door sessions with West African representatives to explore collaboration in medical project implementation, specialty pharmaceutical supply, and advanced technology exchange. Several preliminary cooperation intentions were reached, reflecting strong momentum toward practical partnership.
As a driving force behind the conference, HCOWA leveraged its influence and resource-integration capacity to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The successful convening of the conference has created a seamless platform connecting China’s emerging medical innovations with West African markets, establishing a sustained mechanism for collaboration that supports improved global health resource allocation and advances healthcare standards across the region.
