In the lead-up to the 2025 China–West Africa Medical & Health Industry Summit and Expo, delegations of Chinese medical experts and exhibitors, including the Changchun Group and other specialized companies, embarked on a series of high-level engagements with Ghana’s leading healthcare and professional institutions.

The visits, held between 18th–22nd August 2025, focused on forging stronger partnerships, identifying collaboration opportunities, and advancing healthcare delivery through knowledge sharing, technology exchange, and joint innovations.

Strengthening Pharmaceutical Collaboration

On 18th August 2025, the Changchun Group met with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana. The meeting brought together executives of the Society, which operates across 10 regional branches with over 7,000 registered pharmacists, 5,000 practicing professionals, and more than 100 retail distributors.

The discussions explored collaboration opportunities in drug registration, distribution networks, equipment supply, and shared pharmaceutical expertise, with the ultimate aim of enhancing Ghana’s pharmaceutical sector while promoting China–Ghana exchange in healthcare innovation.

Later that day, Changchun Group held a session with the Executive Board of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, further addressing business opportunities and registration processes for imported medicines.

Hospital-Level Engagements

On 19th August 2025, the Changchun delegation expanded its outreach to clinical facilities:

  • Eden Family Hospital: Discussions with Dr. Andre Kwasi-Kumah highlighted ways of bridging care between Ghana and China, with emphasis on advancing patient services, medical equipment, and clinical collaborations.
  • Korle Bu Teaching Hospital: At Ghana’s premier referral hospital, the delegation met with CEO Dr. Yakubu Seidu, his assistant, and senior staff. Under the theme “International Medical Exchange, Knowledge Sharing & Strengthening Ghana’s Healthcare Capacity”, the meeting focused on research partnerships, technology adoption, and clinical training.
  • Lekma Hospital: The delegation engaged with the hospital administrator, reviewing medical equipment needs, collaboration opportunities, and pharmacy operations, as well as discussing the hospital’s patient case load.
  • The Bank Hospital: Chinese experts toured the facility with the Director of Business, exploring services, equipment usage, and specialist care delivery.
  • University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC): Here, the delegation held a strategic meeting with board members and department heads, exploring business opportunities, specialty services, medical technology integration, and potential facility upgrades.

Policy & Public Health Partnerships

On 21st August 2025, the Changchun Group engaged Ghana’s health authorities:

  • Ghana Health Service: Director Dr. Boakye Boateng hosted discussions under the theme “Building Stronger Collaborations, Sharing Ideas & Creating Sustainable Solutions.” Key topics included joint projects in public health, sustainable healthcare systems, and medical technology exchange.
  • Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council: The meeting broadened collaboration beyond healthcare to agriculture, covering areas such as beef production, mushroom farming, ginseng, and tiger nut cultivation, linking health with nutrition and agro-industrial growth.

Facility Tours and Specialist Exchanges

On 22nd August 2025, another team of Chinese medical experts — Dr. Liang, Dr. Lei, and Dr. Liv — conducted a facility tour of Ghanaian medical and healthcare institutions, furthering dialogue on technology transfer, patient services, and hospital infrastructure upgrades.

A Shared Vision

Across these engagements, both Ghanaian institutions and the visiting Chinese delegations expressed strong commitment to collaborative growth in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and research innovation. The visits not only showcased China’s interest in supporting Ghana’s healthcare system but also emphasized Ghana’s readiness to embrace global partnerships that directly align with the country’s healthcare needs, enhance technology, patient care, and medical expertise.

In a buildup to the 2025 China–West Africa Medical & Health Industry Summit and Expo, these early engagements set the stage for transformative collaborations that could reshape the region’s healthcare and pharmaceutical landscape.
