On August 28, 2025, the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to Ghana, His Excellency Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba, paid a complimentary visit to the Health Community of West Africa Association (HCOWAA) in Accra. The visit highlighted growing regional interest in how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can reshape healthcare delivery.
Motivated by innovations he witnessed at the recent 2025 China–West Africa Medical and Health Industry Expo & AI Diagnosis and Project Cooperation Summit, His Excellency engaged HCOWAA and its partners to explore practical solutions that could be adapted to Sierra Leone’s healthcare system.
Accompanied by Princetta Williams, Information Attaché; Samuel Landford, Second Secretary; and Nelson Dauda, Personal Assistant to the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to Ghana was warmly welcomed by HCOWAA President Madam Sihong Jiang, Chief Director David Tai, Director of Content Yosua Domedjui, and leading Chinese exhibitors, including Peter Wu of Shanghai Medconn and Liu Xian Bo and Qu Jianming of Goldisc ChanyuTech.
During the visit, His Excellency received detailed presentations from both Shanghai Medconn and ChanyuTech. The companies demonstrated AI-powered medical equipment and software designed to improve the accuracy of diagnostic reports, accelerate treatment planning, and ensure the credibility of health data.
The Expo which featured over 500 Chinese exhibitors and brought together healthcare stakeholders from across the region greatly inspired His Excellency Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba to engage HCOWAA for deeper insights into practical applications for Sierra Leone’s health system.
A highlight of the session was a live demonstration of an AI Health Management Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) device. The technology illustrated how AI can integrate with centuries-old TCM practices to assess patient health and recommend treatment pathways. This convergence of innovation and tradition sparked particular interest from the visiting delegation, given the parallels with Sierra Leone’s own reliance on community-based healthcare.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Health Pulse Magazine, His Excellency expressed strong enthusiasm about introducing AI solutions into Sierra Leone’s healthcare sector. He emphasized that innovations in AI could significantly enhance disease diagnosis, strengthen preventive care, and improve efficiency in healthcare delivery.
The visit concluded with preliminary discussions on possible future collaborations between Sierra Leone’s health institutions, HCOWAA, and Chinese technology partners. Such partnerships, His Excellency noted, could play a pivotal role in addressing the persistent gaps in Sierra Leone’s healthcare system while aligning with the broader regional agenda of advancing medical innovation.
