The Ghana College of Pharmacists (GCPharm) held its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on August 28, 2025, in Accra, bringing together members, stakeholders, and partners under the theme: “The Role of the Specialist Pharmacist in the Delivery of Health Targets of the Nation.”
The meeting provided a platform to reflect on the College’s achievements, induct new members and fellows, and strengthen collaborations aimed at advancing Ghana’s healthcare agenda.

Specialist Pharmacists at the Core of National Progress
Delivering the thematic lecture, Prof. Dr. Christian Agyare, a distinguished pharmacist and academic, underscored the indispensable role of specialist pharmacists in achieving Ghana’s health priorities.
He stressed that their advanced training and expertise are essential to:
- Promote rational medicine use and safeguard patient care.
- Lead antimicrobial stewardship to combat resistance.
- Integrate digital health solutions and drive pharmaceutical innovation.
- Enhance equitable access to safe and effective medicines in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Key Updates and Strategic Discussions
The AGM highlighted significant progress and future directions, including:
- Expansion of fellowship and specialist training programs.
- Strengthened collaboration with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Ghana Export Promotion Authority, and the Pharmacy Council on regulation, pharmacovigilance, and standards.
- Expanding the role of pharmacists in primary healthcare delivery and community-level interventions.
- A renewed focus on research and innovation in pharmacy practice to address emerging healthcare challenges.
Recognition and Strategic Direction
The College honored outstanding pharmacists for their contributions to healthcare delivery, academia, and research.
Delivering special remarks on behalf of the Minister of Health, Mr. Saviour Yevutsey, BPharm, MH, FGCPharm, Fellow, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to supporting specialist training and closer collaboration with the College to accelerate national progress in healthcare delivery.
In its closing statement, the college’s leadership reaffirmed its commitment to capacity-building, professional excellence, and stronger inter-professional partnerships, positioning pharmacists as an integral force within Ghana’s health system.
