In a grand celebration of unity and cultural exchange, the China-Canada Trade Chamber of Commerce marked its 10th anniversary with the theme “Mid-Autumn Moon Night, Overseas Chinese Reunion” at the Tang Palace Hotel in Accra.
The event, held on September 15, 2024 and co-sponsored by the Health Community of West Africa (HCOWA), drew distinguished guests, including the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa, along with prominent figures from the Chinese community and trade sectors.
The celebration not only highlighted the Chamber’s achievements in fostering trade relations between China and Canada but also strengthened the cultural ties between overseas Chinese and their host communities.
Ambassador Tong Defa lauded the China-Canada Trade Chamber of Commerce for its remarkable contributions over the past decade in promoting bilateral trade, cultural exchange, and community unity.
In his speech, he underscored the importance of such events in strengthening the bond between China and Ghana, as well as in fostering stronger economic partnerships.
He also commended Ghana’s participation in the China-Africa Cooperation Forum, where Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his wife played an integral role in advancing the relationship between the two nations.
“The Chamber of Commerce has been a vital bridge, not just in trade, but in fostering unity among the overseas Chinese communities and promoting cultural heritage,” Ambassador Tong remarked.
He further added, “Their efforts in public welfare and charity have greatly contributed to the social cohesion and harmony among overseas Chinese.”
HCOWA Continued Support
The Health Community of West Africa (HCOWA), which co-sponsored the event, has been a key player in promoting health-related initiatives and fostering collaboration between West African and Chinese enterprises.

Celebrating a Decade of Achievements
Zheng Shengli, President of the China-Canada Trade Chamber of Commerce, reflected on the Chamber’s decade-long journey, highlighting its pivotal role in promoting trade cooperation between the two nations.
“Over the past 10 years, the Chamber has not only facilitated economic partnerships but also played a crucial role in helping overseas Chinese integrate into local societies while promoting cultural exchange,” Mr. Zheng noted.
He acknowledged the strong support from the Chinese Embassy in Ghana and thanked the many Chinese enterprises and associations that contributed to the Chamber’s success.
Cultural Performances and Festive Spirit
The evening’s celebration was filled with rich cultural performances that showcased the vibrancy of Chinese culture.
Traditional Chinese dances, folk music performances, and modern song and dance routines were among the highlights, enthralling the audience. These performances not only entertained but also served as a cultural bridge, promoting mutual understanding between the Chinese and local communities.
In addition to the artistic performances, the event featured an exciting lucky draw with a wide array of prizes, including household appliances and cash awards. The lucky draw created a lively and festive atmosphere, with attendees enthusiastically participating and celebrating each winner.
