HOCWA Association has entered partnerships through the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Ghana Association of Medical Herbalists and Kantanka Herbal Pharmaceuticals & Research Centre as part of a seminar on the Development and Application of Smart Chinese Medicine in Healthcare. The initiative is aimed at exploring the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and the Ghanaian herbal medicine.
The purpose of this MoU is also to formalize the partnership between Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ghanaian herbal medicine and to strengthen research collaborations, enhance healthcare delivery, and facilitate knowledge exchange programs to the benefit of practitioners, researchers, and the wider healthcare sector.
The MoUs which were signed under the theme, “Bridging Tradition and Technology: AI-Driven Innovations in African and Chinese Medicine will also support herbal medical facilities in upgrading their infrastructure and advocating for policies promoting the integration of herbal medicine into Ghana’s mainstream healthcare system.
This landmark agreement took place on 4th April, 2025, with the lead signatory being Sihong Jiang President, Health Community of West Africa (HCOWA) Association. The agreements outline clear objectives and commitments from both parties, setting the stage for collaborative efforts to modernize healthcare facilities across the region. The partnership will also facilitate access to advanced AI-powered clinical assistance for TCM and herbal medicine diagnosis and treatment.
Sihong Jiang President, Health Community of West Africa (HCOWA) Association, expressed her optimism about the potential impact of these partnerships. She believes that this collaboration will significantly advance the quality of healthcare services in the region, aligning with HCOWA’s mission to enhance medical standards and infrastructure.
This seminar also provided a multifaceted discussion platform, bringing together healthcare professionals in the herbal medicine, AI experts, policymakers, researchers, and traditional medicine practitioners to explore various dimensions of smart traditional medicine.
