The Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) has officially launched the National 2025 World AIDS Day activities under the global theme, “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response,” and the sub-theme, “Africa Unites Against AIDS.”

The launch marks the beginning of a nationwide campaign aimed at revitalizing Ghana’s fight against HIV and AIDS, particularly in the wake of post-pandemic challenges and socio-economic disruptions that have affected access to care and prevention services.

According to the GAC, this year’s observance will focus on accelerating progress toward ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030, strengthening health systems, and ensuring no one is left behind — especially marginalized and vulnerable populations.

National activities will include community outreach programs, public education campaigns, voluntary testing drives, and policy dialogues involving government agencies, civil society, and international partners. The celebrations will climax on Monday, December 1, 2025, in Accra, where key stakeholders are expected to reaffirm their commitments to achieving epidemic control.

GAC officials emphasized the importance of sustaining momentum, noting that while Ghana has made significant progress in reducing new infections, stigma, inadequate funding, and limited awareness continue to hinder the national response.

“We must not allow disruptions — whether economic, social, or health-related — to reverse the gains we have made. Ghana remains committed to ending AIDS by 2030 through innovation, inclusion, and solidarity,” said a GAC representative during the launch.

The Commission has called on all sectors — including faith-based organizations, youth groups, private institutions, and the media — to play active roles in this year’s campaign to ensure a united national effort against HIV and AIDS.
