Senegal’s Ministry of Health and Social Action (MSAS), in collaboration with Digital Square, a branch of the NGO PATH has formally launched the m-s@ntécom mobile platform.
This significant milestone in the digital transformation of community health in Senegal will be marked by a launch workshop and training session from August 6 to August 11, 2024, in Tambacounda.
The event will train 600 community health agents, enhancing healthcare access, efficiency, and quality at the community level.
The launch ceremony was attended by health and administrative authorities, as well as key players in community health, to present this ambitious project. Developed as part of the National Strategic Plan for Community Health (PSNSC), the m-s@ntécom platform aims to equip front-line community health workers (CHWs) with mobile tools that incorporate the CommCare application.
This initiative receives technical support from PATH through Digital Square and is designed to assist Certified Home Assessors (CHAs) in their daily tasks, improving patient care and diagnosis decisions.
A crucial component of this project is the training of 600 community health workers in the Tambacounda district. The training sessions, scheduled for August 6–11, will familiarize CHAs with the application, ensuring its sustainable use.
This training initiative is part of a broader strategy to help community health workers better utilize technology tools, thereby strengthening Senegal’s healthcare system.
As part of the initial implementation, 1,000 community health workers in the Kédougou and Tambacounda areas will receive mobile phones equipped with the m-s@ntécom application. This effort is expected to significantly enhance community-based healthcare delivery, making it more efficient and accessible.
Digital Square, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and a coalition of partners, leads this initiative.
The organization works to align digital technologies with regional needs by bringing together partners to improve the development, application, and funding of digital health tools and methodologies.
In summary, the launch of the m-s@ntécom platform marks a significant advancement in the digitization of Senegal’s healthcare system, promising to transform community health delivery and improve overall healthcare outcomes.
