On August 19, 2025, the official welcome dinner of the 2025 China–West Africa Medical & Health Industry Expo and AI Diagnosis & Project Cooperation Summit gathered government officials in Ghana and West Africa, dignified personalities in health care, sponsors, delegates, medical experts, and exhibitors for a memorable evening of cultural exchange and networking at the Tang Palace Hotel in Accra.

The event celebrated the strong bond between Ghana and China, weaving together cultural exchange, policy dialogue, and industry collaboration. Guests were treated to traditional Ghanaian music and live band performances, setting an atmosphere of warmth and friendship.

Hon. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff of the Republic of Ghana, delivered the Guest of Honor’s address, stressing the role of innovation and AI in advancing healthcare delivery. He elaborated on the government’s enthusiasm to support projects that drive innovation in healthcare.

 Representing the Health Community of West Africa (HCOWA), Madam Anna Jiang, Chief Executive Officer, extended a heartfelt welcome to Chinese dignitaries, underscoring the summit’s role in forging lasting partnerships across the healthcare sector.

Mr. Tang Hong, Chairman of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies and Chief Executive Officer of Tang Palace Hotel, praised the collaborative vision behind the Expo. He emphasized its potential to transform healthcare delivery across West Africa.

Speaking for the Ghana Health Service, Chief Physiotherapist Gaetan Charles Adangabey reaffirmed the importance of HCOWA–GHS collaboration in realizing the goals of the Expo.

The dinner drew several dignitaries, including H.E. Tong Defa, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana; Prof. Samuel Debrah, President of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons; and Prof. Kobby Mensah, CEO of GTDC, among others.

As one of the largest gatherings of its kind, the 2025 Expo is expected to attract:

  1. Over 500 Chinese exhibitors
  2. Representatives from 500+ hospitals and clinics across West Africa
  3. More than 1,500 merchants and industry stakeholders
  4. An estimated 20,000 visitors during the three-day event

The evening concluded with a sense of anticipation, as guests expressed eagerness to explore the opportunities ahead. For many first-time visitors to Ghana, the dinner offered a glimpse of the country’s rich cultural heritage and hospitality.

By highlighting themes of cooperation, AI-driven innovation, and regional healthcare advancement, the welcome dinner set an optimistic tone for the main event. From August 20–22, 2025, the Grand Arena at the Accra International Conference Centre will become the focal point of transformative dialogue and collaboration between China and West Africa’s health sectors.
