The Health Community of West Africa Association has officially launched the 2026 China–West Africa Medical Summit & Expo featuring AI Diagnosis and Project Cooperation in a press conference held at the Ministry of Health Conference Hall in Accra on 21st July 2026.
The event officially began with the singing of the Ghana national anthem and welcome address from the main expo partner, Ministry of Health, Ghana.
In delivering the welcome address, Director of Nursing at the Ministry of Health, Evelyn Amoako underscored the importance of partnerships in advancing healthcare delivery. She commended Health Community of West Africa Association for its efforts in fostering collaboration between Ghana, China, and West Africa region and expressed optimism about the Summit’s potential to drive innovation and strengthen healthcare systems across the continent.
Country Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) to Ghana, Dr. Fiona Braka speaking through Mr. Frank Lule highlighted the critical role of innovation, digital health, and strategic partnerships in advancing healthcare delivery. He further commended the 2026 China–West Africa Medical Summit & Expo for fostering dialogue, collaboration, and practical solutions to strengthen health systems across the region.
The next presentation was an address from President of Health Community of West Africa Association, Madam Sihong Jiang. She reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to advancing healthcare through innovation, investment, and international partnerships. She noted that Ghana has the potential to become a leading healthcare hub in West Africa through investments in medical infrastructure, pharmaceutical manufacturing, healthcare technology, and research. She also highlighted the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital health in improving disease diagnosis, expanding access to quality healthcare, and strengthening health systems.
Speaking on expectations for the upcoming expo, Vice President of Health Community of West Africa Association, Prince Opoku Dogbey reflected on the success of the previous expos, which attracted more than 1,000 medical institutions, 47 health associations, over 500 medical distributors, and generated business worth US$30 million.
“Our confidence in this platform is built on the results we achieved in 2025. These achievements clearly demonstrate the growing demand for stronger China–West Africa healthcare cooperation,” Prince Dogbey said.
He projected that the 2026 edition will be expanded to include 300 exhibition booths, attract approximately 30,000 healthcare professionals, and connect exhibitors to nearly 18,000 hospitals and clinics across Africa.
Representing the Minister for Health, Dr. Hafez Adam, Director of Technical Coordination at the Ministry of Health, described the Summit as a strategic platform for healthcare innovation and international cooperation. Delivering the Minister’s address, he reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare through infrastructure development, research, digital transformation, and the implementation of Free Primary Healthcare.
Concluding his presentation, he stood on behalf of the health minister to formally launch 2026 China–West Africa Medical Summit & Expo featuring AI Diagnosis and Project Cooperation.
This launch was evidenced with a ribbon cutting was adequately supported by Madam Sihong Jiang, President, Health Community of West Africa, Dr Yakubu Tobor Yusuf, Chief Executive Officer of Traditional Medicine Practice Council, Mr Frank Lule , Rep of Country Representative to Ghana for World Health Organization, Mr Duke Aykin of Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Dr Samuel Antwi-Gyethyi Director of Digital Technology at Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, Chief Executive Officer, National Health Insurance Authority, Mr. Amadou Drane of Senegal embassy, Samuel D. Landford of Sierra Leone High Commission, Dr Mounkaila Yacouba, of Niger High Commission, Olufemi Olonjolu, of Nigeria High Commission, Hafizou Abdou Mali Embassy and other dignitaries who graced the occasion.
The event also brought most of partner health associations, government officials, healthcare professionals, diplomats, development partners, industry leaders, researchers, and members of the media in Ghana and West Africa.
The 2026 China–West Africa Medical Summit & Expo will take place from 19th to 21st August 2026 at the Ghana International Mall, Spintex Road, Accra, reinforcing Health Community of West Africa Association’s vision of a stronger, more innovative, and connected healthcare ecosystem across West Africa.
