The Health Community of West Africa Association hosted a welcome dinner on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the Ghana International Mall in Accra, bringing together its partners, representatives of participating associations and members of the Chinese medical teams ahead of the 2026 China West Africa Medical Summit and Expo.

The evening provided an opportunity for the Association to formally welcome its partners to Ghana while strengthening the relationships expected to support closer cooperation between West African health institutions and their counterparts from China.

The gathering also marked an important step in preparations for the summit and expo, which brings together stakeholders from the health sector to explore opportunities for cooperation, investment, technology and the development of healthcare across the region.
As part of the dinner, the Health Community of West Africa Association presented partnership certificates to selected professional health associations in recognition of their commitment to regional collaboration.

Among the recipients were the Association Nationale Des Infirmiers Et Infirmières Du Togo , The Society of Gynecologists and Obstetricians of Togo (SGOT),Association Des Technologues En Genie En Bimedicale Du Benin, Association Des Biomedicaux De La Cote D’ivoire , Clinique Schilo, Association Togolaise Des Techniciens En G2enie, National Associatin of Nigeria Traditional Medicine Pratitioners, etc
The certificates, issued in August 2026, formalise a partnership period running from August 2026 to August 2028. The partnerships are centred on promoting regional integration and the development of the medical industry in West Africa.

For the Association Nationale Des Infirmiers Et Infirmières Du Togo, the recognition highlights the growing role of nursing professionals in cross-border health cooperation and knowledge exchange.
The partnership with the Society of Gynecologists and Obstetricians of Togo also adds to efforts to strengthen collaboration among specialists working in women’s health and reproductive healthcare across the sub-region.
The welcome dinner brought a more personal touch to the preparations for the summit, allowing partners and the Chinese teams to meet outside the formal conference setting and build relationships ahead of the activities scheduled for the expo.

The 2026 China West Africa Medical Summit and Expo is expected to provide a platform for health professionals, institutions, investors, medical technology companies and other stakeholders to discuss practical opportunities for strengthening healthcare systems in West Africa.
For the Health Community of West Africa Association, the partnerships formed around the event are expected to extend beyond the summit itself, with the two-year partnership period creating room for continued engagement and joint initiatives across the region.
The welcome dinner therefore served not only as a reception for visiting partners and Chinese teams, but also as an early indication of the wider regional cooperation the Health Community of West Africa Association hopes to build through the 2026 China West Africa Medical Summit and Expo.
