The National Association of Nursing in Togo launched its pivotal triennial General Assembly on 30th September, 2025 in the nation’s capital, Lomé, marking a significant step forward for healthcare governance and regional collaboration in West Africa.

The Health Community of West Africa (HCOWA) Association was prominently recognized as a pivotal catalyst for regional healthcare collaboration during the opening day of the National Association of Nursing in Togo’s triennial General Assembly on Monday

The opening ceremony, which commenced at 9:00am, gathered a distinguished assembly of the country’s top health leaders. The event was graced by the presence of officials from the Togo Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, Regional Health Directors, the Mayor of Lomé, the Association President, and dedicated nursing delegates representing all five regions of Togo.

Central to the Assembly’s agenda are the critical tasks of revising the Association’s governing statutes and electing a new Executive Committee. These actions are designed to effectively steer the Association’s objectives and strengthen the regulatory framework for the nursing profession in the years ahead.

The opening ceremony solidified the event as a milestone for healthcare governance, with HCOWA positioned not merely as an attendee, but as an essential partner. As a dedicated champion in improving healthcare in West Africa, HCOWA is keen to show its commitment to supporting such pivotal national bodies, signaling a deeper collaboration to come. This partnership is poised to shape a more robust and interconnected future for healthcare ecosystems across Togo and the wider region.

In his address, the representative of the Mayor of Lomé, from Golfe 7, underscored the indispensable role of nurses, stating, “Nurses are healers. They are a major support to Togo’s health system.”

The official from the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene acknowledged the relentless hard work of the Association, expressing profound gratitude for its contributions to the national health landscape. Echoing this sentiment, the representative of the Regional Directory praised the practical and impactful work of nurses, noting how the Association’s efforts have made their vital duties more manageable and effective.

A key theme of the opening day was the emphasis on strengthening regional collaborations and partnerships to amplify the impact on Togo’s health system and the wider West African region.

In a notable recognition, speakers highlighted the instrumental role played by the Health Community of West Africa (HCOWA) Association. They specifically commended HCOWA’s summits and expos for creating a vital platform that has enabled Togolese nursing leaders to connect with partners and resources across the region.

Yosua Kodjovi Domedjui, the Director of Content for the HCOWA Association, was there, highlighting the increasing collaboration among healthcare groups committed to the advancement of the industry.  A shared commitment to strengthening regulations, empowering nurses, and building the relationships required for a healthier future in Togo and West Africa is demonstrated by this historic meeting.
