In a major move to promote regional health cooperation, a representative from the Health Community of West Africa (HCOWA) Association, Mr. Yoshua Kodjovi Domedjui – Director of content, paid Togo’s Minister of Health, Professor Tchin DARRE, a courtesy call at the Ministry of Health in Lomé on 1st October, 2025.
The meeting, held in a cordial and forward-looking atmosphere, served to strengthen ties and discuss pivotal initiatives for the West African health sector. The central focus was the upcoming Health Ministers Summit, which aims to pilot the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into regional healthcare systems.
Professor DARRE warmly received Mr. Domedjui and enthusiastically proposed Lomé as the host city for the landmark summit. The Minister further outlined an ambitious vision for collaboration, expressing Togo’s strong interest in partnering with HCOWA to establish a traditional medicine teaching hospital that integrates AI technologies.
The central topic of discussion was the upcoming Health Ministers Summit, which aims to pilot the integration of AI across West African health systems. Professor DARRE enthusiastically championed Lomé as the ideal host city for this landmark event, positioning Togo at the forefront of regional health innovation.
Beyond the summit, the Minister revealed a groundbreaking initiative for collaboration between the Ministry and HCOWA: the establishment of a traditional medicine teaching hospital that fully integrates AI.
The Minister also confirmed his support for the necessary requests previously submitted by the Nursing Association of Togo, highlighting a comprehensive approach to strengthening the nation’s health sector in partnership with key professional bodies.
Highlighting Togo’s commitment to partnership, Professor DARRE stated that the nation is “welcoming and very available for partnership with HCOWA Association.” He also assured his support for the necessary requests previously made by the Nursing Association of Togo.
The meeting was attended by a cohort of key health leaders, including the President of the Togo Nursing Association, the General Secretary of the Togo Nursing Association, and the Director of Content for HCOWA Association, signaling a unified commitment from both governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.
This courtesy visit by HCOWA’s Director of Content successfully laid the groundwork for a potent collaboration, positioning Togo as a potential leader in merging technological innovation with healthcare advancement in West Africa.
